Kells Co.Kerry
Kells, Co.Kerry, was a small station located roughly half way on the former Farranfore to Valentia Harbour branch, which opened in September 1893, and closed completely in February 1960. This Great Southern & Western Railway built branch line, which featured many tall viaducts and tunnels, was ranked as one of the most scenic in the country, but was unfortunately closed by CIE who failed to recognise its future tourist potential. The station at Kells however remains remarkably intact, complete with both platforms, corrugated iron station building, brick built GSWR signal cabin and station masters house. The station is located in a scenic valley, just off the main N70 road to Valentia.
